About Flatheim

The smallholding has a history going back to 1949, when it was separated off as its own holding. Heidi and Sigurd, who run Flatheim, are the 12th generation on the farm. In addition to the original guesthouse from 1949, over the last 10 years we have expanded with several buildings in the farmyard. Most of the buildings are older houses that we have moved here, restored and fitted out as comfortable and pleasant rooms for guests. Here you can stay in apartments, family rooms or double rooms. The various units are located in several houses in the farmyard, surrounded by a cosy garden with berries, herbs and flowers, seating areas and a garden room. One of the houses is listed, and the oldest part is from 1570. In this building we have premises for parties and meetings. Previously there was also a petrol station here, which has now closed. The old "kiosk" of the petrol station is now a little shop with gifts, refreshments and local products. We have a lovely outdoor area by the river, with a lean-to shelter, fire bowls and fireplaces, where you can grill, swim and enjoy yourself in harmony with the surrounding nature. By the river we also have an area with a summer house and a hot tub and sauna that can be hired. The farm of course has animals, and you can meet sheep, hens and cats whose address is Flatheim. From about the middle of June to the middle of August you can also choose to stay in a glamping tent on the riverbank at Flatheim. Comfortable, but even closer to nature. Flatheim lies roughly in the middle of the county, and is perfect as a base for excursions to Sognefjorden, Dalsfjorden, the coast or Jølster and Nordfjord. Locally there are fine walking opportunities, both summit hikes and easier footpaths. Right nearby, along the Gaula watercourse, lies Fossestien, a splendid laid-out path that winds along the river, from the high mountains and down through the village, past waterfalls and lakes in constantly changing terrain. Conditions are good for fishing trips both in the river and in lakes, or paddling by canoe or kayak. If you come here in winter, you come to a winter wonderland. We usually have snow, and the proximity of Gaularfjellet opens up a fantastic landscape for summit tours and winter experiences. Spring ski tours here are also recommended. In 2019 we were certified as a Norsk Økoturisme business. We are very keen to showcase and look after the local resources, both when it comes to people, food, nature, culture and history. We care about the environment, and it is of great value to us to be able to reuse buildings, materials, furniture and textiles, -preferably letting the old times meet the new. We want to use nature, but use it gently. Our goal is to recycle waste as far as possible, have as little food waste as possible, and let emissions to both air and water do as little harm as possible. These are important values for us, which we hope many of our guests can share with us. If you make the trip to Flatheim you will experience an area that lies a little off the busiest tourist routes, but which still offers great nature experiences, thriving villages, peace and quiet.
