About Balholm AS
What can we offer when you come to visit? Throughout the summer season we have two cider tastings daily (except Sundays) - in the morning with a lunch platter where each dish matches the ciders, and in the afternoon with cider/fruit wines and snacks. We also serve lunch a la carte - with juice or cider, of course. You can choose between about 30 different flavours of fruit drinks with or without alcohol - juice or lemonade, cider, fruit wine, apple liqueur or fruit brandy produced by us - so quite a good chance that you will find something you like! "Cider Makers dinner" is a dinner experience where food, cider and storytelling are closely tied together, and we get no complaints about the view over Sognefjorden. We are Norway's only cider restaurant - that is, we only serve drinks that we or our cider colleagues have made. The food we serve is inspired by the Mediterranean, as our hostess and head chef, Tuba, comes from Turkey. In the farm shop we have all the Balholm drinks and also Balholm chocolate made in-house. And of course the chocolate tastes of fruit and berries. We have been at it for a long time... Balholm started out pressing apples and making juice from 100 % fruit in 1996, and we were the first to offer unfiltered juice in grocery shops, to mix berries into the juice and to add carbonation and make sparkling drinks from pressed fruit. We take pride in having a versatile selection of ciders to suit any type of food - even game stew. Here at Ciderhuset you can dive into the history of the apple. You can learn about different groups of apples - table apples, cooking apples and cider apples, and about how they become different styles of cider. What happens when we add yeast to the juice and ferment for a short time or longer? What is the point of making cider by the traditional French method? And what is really the difference between cider and fruit wine? In the distillery there is spirit made from apple or perhaps plum... Welcome!
