Over the years the farm has produced both fruit and meat, but today the main focus is on the production of Edel eplemost (apple juice) and Edel Sider (cider). The farm Åkre is located on the western side of Sørfjorden in Ullensvang Herad in Hardanger and benefits from the mild and pleasant western Norwegian climate here. The farm is optimally placed for producing the best apples for a tart, fresh and balanced apple juice and cider. The farm is today run by Arita & Gjermund Åkre, with good help from the senior generation - Marit & Olav. Quality, taste experience, locally sourced, organic, natural and elegant are some of the key words when our products are created, and we hope and believe that this can be tasted. When the apples are ready for picking in the autumn, the production equipment at Åkre is made ready for an intensive and exciting time. The apples come from our own production or from good neighbours in the district. The apples are carefully received, sorted and washed before they are ready to be turned from apples into sweet and fresh apple juice. The apple juice is produced from single apple varieties in order to preserve the distinctive character of the different varieties – Aroma, Discovery, Gravenstein, Idun, Karen Schneider, etc. The apple juice is pasteurised before it is bottled. There are no additives here, just pure and fresh apple juice. Those apples that are chosen as raw material for the apple cider are put into fermentation vats as soon as they have been turned into apple juice. There the juice will stand for some months under careful control so that the apple juice slowly but surely changes into an aromatic, fresh, dry and sparkling apple cider.
