The farm Eggen lies in the mountain village of Vingelen in Tolga municipality, about 700 metres above sea level. Eggen Gardsysteri is run by Marius Eggen and Lotte Iversen, who produce cheese from organic milk in their own farm cheese dairy. In summer the cows are at the seter (summer mountain farm) and graze on lush mountain pasture. The seter lies up towards Nonsvola at about 900 metres above sea level and in the border zone of Forollhogna Nasjonalpark. The milk is then transported down to the farm, once or twice a week, for processing. The cowshed, the milk room, the cheese dairy and the shop are right next to each other, which means the milk travels only a short distance and therefore keeps good quality. The organic milk becomes Fjellost, Fjellblå, Eggen Spesial, Fjellgo’ and Salatost. Eggen has won several prizes for its cheeses; among other things they were awarded gold for Fjellblå and silver for Fjellgo’ at the World Cheese Awards in London in the autumn of 2017.
