Gripen gard is a 475-decare farm without road access, idyllically situated by Storavatnet on Holsnøy. Here you will find peace, wilderness and an authentic cultural environment with restored buildings from the 1600s and 1700s, including a lemstove (traditional loft house), eldhus (detached cook house), forge, sawmill and a new grindløe (post-and-beam barn). Gripen offers accommodation, courses, farm experiences and local food. We have glamping in small, distinctive mini houses and on Roseholmen, a little island with a wood-fired lavvo (Sámi tent). Guests can borrow a boat, fish and experience nature close up. The farm has the market garden Gripen Grønt, with seasonal vegetables, as well as its own products such as syrups, jam, fermented vegetables, hazelnuts and meat products from Old Norwegian sheep, including pinnekjøtt (salted, dried lamb ribs) and fenalår (cured leg of lamb). All production is certified by Debio (Norwegian organic certification body), and Gripen is a proud member of HANEN (Norwegian rural tourism association). The new grindløe houses a function room with space for up to 60 dining guests, a kitchen, production premises for processing meat and fish, as well as a workshop. The room is suitable for parties, courses, concerts and cultural events, with a natural amphitheatre outside. The production premises can also be hired. Gripen is a place for courses in traditional crafts, self-sufficiency, organic gardening, animal care, log building, post-and-beam building, bunad (traditional Norwegian costume) sewing, beer brewing and much more. In the autumn we organise guided mushroom walks. Large parts of the property lie in the Gripakletten nature reserve with old coastal pine forest and arctic rainforest. The farm places great emphasis on sustainability and the circular economy, and uses reclaimed materials in buildings and interiors where possible. The farm has been under development since 2011 after many years without operation. Today Gripen is a living farm with sheep farming, cultural history, nature and experiences at its centre. Your host is Helene Olli, a trained architect and craftswoman, who together with WWOOF volunteers and helpers has built up the farm with great dugnad (voluntary community work) effort and commitment.
