About Nordheim gård

A fascination with pollinating insects and a wish to make use of the local flora on Frøya led us to establish the first of our apiaries in 2019. It is important to us that the beekeeping is run on the bees' terms, and that the honey should be locally sourced and 100% natural. The summer on Frøya rarely yields large quantities of honey. Only when late summer sets in, and the heather moors turn purple with millions of heather flowers, do the bees manage to fill up a small store that we can harvest from. Nordheim Gård has established apiaries at various locations on Frøya. The local flora around each apiary is unique, which means that the honey from each individual apiary gets a distinctive taste and colour, and can vary from season to season. The honey from each individual apiary is therefore kept separate and is gently processed and bottled in the farm's own extraction room. Since 2020 Nordheim Gård has been involved in the conservation of the kystgeit (Norwegian coastal goat), and that same year took part in starting Trøndelag Kystgeitlag. Through participation in the breeding plan and buck exchange ring, Nordheim Gård, together with the other herds in Trøndelag Kystgeitlag, has worked actively to secure the continuation of the breed in the region and its management in line with national recommendations for the conservation of this livestock breed.
