Hurran gård is now run by the 3rd generation. Here we have kept villsau (old Norwegian sheep breed) since 2000, and have done processing and slaughtering since 2007. Our vision is to farm 100% organically with the resources Frøya's nature gives us. Good and varied grazing is important for the villsau and we place great emphasis on this. Taking good care of the villsau ensures us a good end product. Here we practise good old-fashioned craftsmanship, everything from salting pinnekjøtt (salted, dried lamb ribs) and sewing lammerull (rolled pressed lamb cold cut) to packing is done by hand. As a true family business, all the family members gather to work in the season, plus two hired-in butchers. The villsau gives lovely meat marked by the sheep's coastal menu of heather, herb-rich coastal meadows, seaweed and kelp. With its herb-spiced game flavour, tenderness and quite special fatty acid composition, villsau represents the very finest in lamb and mutton. Here you get 100% organic meat of the very finest quality. We have a good and close collaboration with Mattilsynet (the Norwegian Food Safety Authority), so that you can feel completely confident about the quality. We do not only sell the meat from our sheep, we also want to spread knowledge about the villsau. Every autumn we are visited by various schools and nurseries who get to experience how the slaughtering is done and learn a little about how the villsau lives and what the meat is to be used for. They get an insight into the life of a natural animal that gives us clean and natural food. We make use of everything the villsau gives us. The skins are therefore sent on to schools for tanning and become fine sheepskin products. So not only do we get lovely meat from our sheep, they also give plenty of knowledge and learning to the next generation who are to look after our land and our animals.
