About Sæterstad Gård as
Sæterstad Gård was originally a seter (summer mountain farm), but was permanently settled in 1927 by Kaspari Simonsen and Julia Kristiansdotter with their nine children. Siri Kobberrød and Knut Kastnes bought the farm in 1980 and started with dairy goats. Since then the farm has gained the country's first land-based farming facility for Arctic char, called the fiskefjøs (fish shed), Northern Norway's first authorised farm cheese dairy, its own micro power station and finally Miljøhuset with a solar collector roof, sauna, jacuzzi and, not least, a salt cave. We have a small farm shop, open more or less all year, selling our own products such as various goat's cheeses, raket (fermented) and hot-smoked Arctic char, goat sausage and frozen kid (young goat) meat (leg and shoulder). In addition we sell a number of products made from Himalayan salt. We use this in all our products. We are open all year for booking catering and accommodation. The farm café is open every Saturday during the school summer holidays 11.00-16.00. Here we also offer an hour's guided tour around the farm every Saturday at 12.00, (NOK 100/50). We also recommend the walking trail around Bessvatnet. There are many fishing opportunities here and plenty of trout, fishing licence NOK 100. A boat can be borrowed free of charge.
