Sygarden i Hålien is a small dairy farm in Ryfoss in Vang in Valdres. We have fifteen dairy cows of the vestlandsk fjordfe breed. With us the animals are outdoors all year round and they eat feed free from soya and palm oil. We focus strongly on the animals' natural behaviour and social life. For that reason we also let the calves stay with the cows for the first two months. At the start of the summer the animals graze biologically important pastures on the farm and after that at two støls (summer mountain farms), the home støl at Hyggjande at 900 metres above sea level and Hålistølen below Synshorn at 1100 metres above sea level. Hålistølen by Bygdin has been in continuous use for many hundreds of years. At our home støl there is no cowshed, but last year we got to rent a støl cowshed from a neighbour and could thereby resume milking Sygarden's cows at Hyggjande after 50 years. At Sygarden we have built a cheese dairy where we process our milk into various dairy products. Steikeost (frying cheese) is the customers' favourite, but we also have butter, sour cream, salad cheese, fresh cheese, quark, ricotta and yoghurt. You can buy our products in our honesty shops at the farm or at Hålistølen. There you pay easily with Vipps (a Norwegian mobile payment app). You can also get in touch and plan a visit with us where you can join us in the cowshed, cuddle calves and see a bit of our everyday life.
