About Solhus Gård

Welcome to Solhus Gård. The name Solhus is a modified form of Saluhusa, which means "Lodging for travellers". The farm's history goes back to the early 1600s, when Jon Solhus built the first houses at Solhus. From the middle of the 1700s Solhus became a ferry point for travellers who needed to be taken across Orkla. There was also accommodation for travellers. The farm had many owners until 1867, when our family bought it at a forced sale. Today it is Eli Solhus and Terje Rostad who run the farm. After a change in operations in 2020, when milk production came to an end, the main production today is table potatoes and grain. In addition we have a market garden, where we grow a few vegetables for sale in the farm shop. Visit our well-stocked farm shop. Here, in addition to our own potatoes and vegetables in season, there is everything from meat to fish products. Eggs, cheese, milk, cordial, jelly, baked goods and good old-fashioned sweets. Most of it is produced in Orkland or by small niche producers with a love of local food. We pack and sell almost all of our potatoes from the farm. In addition to the farm shop we sell our potatoes to local food shops, restaurants, caterers and large-scale kitchens. We also produce potatoes for industry. All reject/waste potatoes from our own farm packing facility also go to industry, for the production of starch. So nothing goes to waste. This is to make production as sustainable as possible.
